Poppet Damper

Poppet Damper – Series 1907

The SUDE Poppet Damper with Inlet–Outlet–Bypass is a precision-engineered flow diversion system designed to provide accurate control and isolation of hot gas or air streams in industrial process ducts. Featuring two or more circular poppet discs, the damper ensures tight sealing against machined seat rings located at the outlet and bypass ducts. Depending on its position, the damper can either direct the flow to the main outlet or reroute it through the bypass, enabling efficient flow management, precise thermal load control, and reliable system operation.

Built to withstand extreme operating conditions, SUDE’s Poppet Dampers are widely employed in gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), industrial furnaces, and pollution control systems. The robust construction ensures high sealing integrity and long-term durability, even under high-temperature and high-pressure environments. These dampers can be integrated with automated actuation systems for seamless operation, offering process reliability, operational flexibility, and optimized performance in critical industrial applications.

Working Principle:

Normal Flow (Outlet Open, Bypass Closed)
The main outlet poppet opens, allowing direct flow from inlet to outlet, while the bypass poppet remains closed, sealing the bypass duct.
Bypass Flow (Bypass Open, Outlet Closed)
The outlet poppet closes and bypass poppet opens, diverting flow through the bypass line — typically used for thermal relief, low-load operation, or emergency cooling.
Isolation Mode
Both poppets can be fully closed to achieve complete flow isolation when maintenance or system shutdown is required.

Actuation Options:

Electric
Slow, controlled modulation for automated operation
Pneumatic
Fast open/close action with position control
Hydraulic
High-force actuation for large or high-cycle systems
